The Gold Cappucino
“I am so excited about the Gold Cappuccino,” my friend Kim said to me. We had just finished brunch at Al Muntaha, atop the Burj Al Arab, in Dubai. After taking many photos of the panoramic views of city, particularly The Palm and the Arabian Gulf, we headed down to the Sahn Eddar lounge on the lobby level.
Once we arrived, the hostess seated us immediately and informed us that our Gold Cappuccinos was being made (per the request of our friends upstairs at Al Muntaha). She gave us menus to peruse, and we decided to share a coconut cake.
Shortly, we came across the description of what Kim had been so excited about.
The Burj Al Arab Gold Cappucino
A smooth creation of premium coffee, fresh milk and fine 24 Carat Gold, served with a Grand Cru Guanaja Chocolate Marshmallow
After the server laid down two beautiful trays before us trays, both Kim and I beamed with joy. We snapped away at our beloved cappuccinos that had the logo of the Burj Al Arab in the golden froth, from all different angles. However, our server stopped us for a moment. He took out what looked like a see-through pepper shaker, filled with gold flakes. He sprinkled a few flakes on top of both the cappuccino and the chocolate marshmallow. Another photo op of the gold cappuccino!
I wasn’t sure what to expect when Kim first mentioned this “concept” to me, but seeing the gold cappuccino in front of me conjured a feeling of delight. Both the chocolate marshmallow and the coconut cake were incredibly decadent and enhanced by the coffee flavor of the cappuccino.
This gold cappuccino comes with a hefty price tag of roughly $90-$100 USD, depending on the exchange rate. Is it worth the it? Well, it tastes like a regular cappuccino but trust me, I licked the cup clean of every spec of gold. It was the most expensive Instagram post, but in Dubai, it was one of the most affordable things I could experience.
If you want a taste, check it out at at the Sahn Eddar lounge, at the Burj Al Arab.
